SAFARI OVERVIEW

The wildebeest migration river crossing beginning July moves north and passes through the Lobo and the Wagakuria area en-route to Kenya’s Maasai Mara Game Reserve. In September, the wildebeest herds are spread out over the northern Serengeti National Park and Kenya’s Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Several large herds of wildebeest remain behind in the area and weather changes may sometimes bring the herds back into the area from the Mara. In October, the herds move south towards the central Serengeti National Park via the Lobo area of the Serengeti National Park.

DAY1: ARRIVAL ARUSHA

On your arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport you are welcomed by our HTT-Safaris representative who will guide you into a waiting vehicle and transfer you to the Lake Duluti Serena Lodge around Arusha. Nestled at the foot of the wooded slopes of Mount Meru, this unique hotel in Arusha Tanzania stands amid coffee plantations on the shores of tranquil Lake Duluti. Designed to echo the traditional style of the colonial coffee farm, which originally stood on this site, Lake Duluti Serena Hotel offers a range of tastefully presented cottage-styled rooms set amid extensive landscaped grounds.

 DAY2: ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK

Your program starts at a slow pace. First you enjoy your breakfast served on your private verandah overlooking the lush green gardens of your lodge. Afterwards you drive to Arusha National Park. You pass by herds of zebra, buffalo, and giraffe on the savannah. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Momella Lake, famous for huge flocks of colorful flamingos and its views at majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro. You continue in the afternoon with a game drive around the different habitats in this truly beautiful national park. There are black and white colobus monkeys, Sykes’s and velvet monkeys, shy forest duikers, elusive leopards and substantial herds of antelope.

DAY3: LAKE MANYARA

After breakfast you’ll drive across the floor of the Great Rift Valley to Lake Manyara National Park for your first game drive. This beautiful park combines an alkali lake covered with flocks of pelicans and flamingos with African savannah and tropical forests of giant fig and mahogany trees. Elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra and a variety of antelope inhabit the park as well as a variety of monkeys and a large population of hippos. If you are lucky you may see the Manyara lions, well known for their tree climbing habits, lazily resting on the branches of an “Acacia tortilis” tree. The birdlife is also abundant, with flamingoes, pelicans, hornbills and plenty of forest species.

DAY 4: NGORONGORO CRATER

After breakfast you travel through Serengeti again and drive towards Ngorongoro. Around 11:00 hours you reach Ngorongoro Conservation Area home of the world famous Ngorongoro Crater. It is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest animal populations and one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be observed in its natural habitat.
There are various options to spend the reminder of the day (at additional cost):
• Visit of a Maasai Village (extra cost of 30 USD per vehicle)
• Game drive at the Ngorongoro Crater Floor (295 USD Ngorongoro Crater Fee per vehicle)
• Ranger guided Nature Walk along the Crater Rim (25 USD per person)
Alternatively you settle in at your beautiful country home style lodge and enjoy a restful afternoon. An interesting coffee plantation walk is offered by the lodge at 16:30 free of charge including coffee roasting and grinding ceremony.

DAY 5: SERENGETI                                                                   

After breakfast you start on your way to Serengeti National Park likely the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world. The vast Serengeti plains cover an area of about 15,000 square kilometers and during the months of the Great Migration, is the habitat of huge numbers of wildebeest, zebra and Thomson’s gazelle. The Serengeti Kopjes, massive boulder islands of granite standing in a sea of grass, provide shelter to a great variety of plants and animals, from the elusive leopard to the tiny Dik dik. After stopping for your picnic lunch at such a kopje you will continue further into the park and go on a game drive.
Driving time without game viewing 4 – 4, 5 hours.

DAY 6: SERENGETI

Early morning game drive to see also nocturnal predators returning from hunting and animals waking up in early morning light. After enjoying a bush breakfast at the hippo pools you precede with your game drives around Serengeti named after an old Maasai word Siringeti, meaning ‘Endless Plains’. Depending on the time of year and the migration of the herds you can expect to see wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes and many birds and other species. Return to your luxury camp for late lunch under Acacia Trees or stay in the bush until late afternoon. In the evening you will be surprised with a private candle light dinner under African Stars.

DAY 7: ARUSHA – ZANZIBAR

After a leisurely breakfast we will take to the Seronera Air strip for your flight to Zanzibar. Driving time without game viewing 3 hours. Transfer to your beach hotel.
Overnight at Zanzibar Serena Hotel at one of the secluded Frangipane Suites with large open bedroom and private pool on the ground terrace (or similar). All meals included.

On one day you go on a guided tour. First you visit the Spice Plantations at Kidichi for the famous Spice Tour. We have developed a special Spice Tour with in depth information not only about spices, but also organically grown herbs and a detailed description about their traditional uses in medicine cosmetics and cooking. After the tour we invite for an opulent lunch at the ‘Spice Restaurant’, where you can taste the spices and fruits.
In the afternoon we will show you Stone Town on our Historical Stone Town Tour. This tour takes you through fabled Stone Town, where history appears to stand still. With visits to the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum (People’s Palace) and the Arab Fort amongst others, it is a fascinating look at the essence of Zanzibar. You will see Zanzibar’s bustling market, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors, two cathedrals and countless mosques! Transfer back to your beach hotel.

DAY 11 DEPARTURE

After breakfast at the beach resort Zanzibar and depending on your departure schedule we transfer you to the Airport to take a flight back home with fond memories of your honeymoon Safari in Tanzania. Breakfast included.
