Engaruka Ruin is an Historical site located about 50km north of Lake Manyara National Park on the base of Great Rift Valley famed for its irrigation and cultivation system of the old. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in Tanzania and one of Tanzania’s tourists attractions. The place is said to have accommodated several thousand people who developed an intricate irrigation system using stone-blocks canal channeling water from the Ngorongoro Crater Highland The village has been linked to the tribe of Sonjo the semi-nomadic tribe of northern Tanzania whose population now numbers only a few of them now living about 60 miles to the northwest of Engaruka known for their use of irrigation systems in agriculture and similar terraced village sites.
